How do the Best VPNs for Torrenting protect your torrenting activity?

The best VPNs for torrenting use high levels of encryption to encrypt your torrenting traffic download and upload preventing your ISP, Government as well as your local network from seeing your torrenting activities.

In fact, if you torrent using a strictly no logs VPN, your VPN service won’t have a record of your activities. That way, even if they are slumped with a DMCA Notice or settlement letters, they can’t hand over your torrenting activities.

BitTorrent is a P2P protocol. When you use the torrent, you get connected with all others using the same torrent (what is referred to as a ‘swam’). The danger lies in the fact that all the devices connected to the ‘swam’ can see each other’s torrenting activities.

That’s why it is advisable to always connect to a VPN service before engaging in any torrenting activities. A VPN encrypts all your traffic and prevents other torrent users from seeing your torrenting activities. They cannot identify your IP address. A shared IP address makes it even more difficult for anyone to determine your traffic.

Best VPNs for Torrenting Considerations

Security

Security is a primary consideration when you are choosing the best VPN for torrenting. The levels of encryption implemented by the VPN service affects the kind of protection you get. Other factors worth checking out are whether the VPN uses an Internet Kill Switch. Also, the best VPNs for torrenting should protect against common VPN leaks such as DNS leaks, IP leaks, as well as WebRTC leaks.

Privacy

Privacy begins with the location of a VPN service. Some locations are riddled with massive government surveillance, while others are subject to privacy-invasive laws. Jurisdictions such as China, Turkey, and Russia exercise enormous internet censorship. China is the most notorious with their famous Great Firewall of China. In the same token, the Five Eyes membership countries are known to exercise massive surveillance on their citizens and share the intelligence among the member countries. Australia on its part has privacy invasive metadata laws requiring Telecommunication operators to store a user’s Metadata up to 2years.

Next, it is essential to read the VPNs privacy policy to find out whether the particular VPN service logs a user’s browsing activities. A strictly no logs VPN is what I would advise for anyone intending to torrent. With a no logs VPN you can torrent at peace knowing that the VPN won’t have a record of your torrenting activity.

Bandwidth

A VPN service that caps your bandwidth cannot support your torrenting activity. Torrenting requires lots of data.

Speed

Torrenting is a speed intensive activity. All the VPNs I recommend in this review have the necessary speeds for torrenting.

Shared IPs

Shared IPs add a layer of anonymity to your torrenting activities. Since a single IP address is shared among several users, it’s a bit of a challenge to identify a specific user. It increases anonymity as compared to a dedicated IP address.

  1. If you’re planning to torrent – Nord is a good option. Speed drops just about 5-10%, but you can’t be angry at that, your overall ISP speed has a huge impact on it. Just make sure you’re connected to a P2P server because they’re specifically for torrenting.

  2. I’m using Purevpn and before that I used PIA and both work fine for torrenting. I would recommend you to add some more providers so people can have good choice

  3. I haven’t tried katcr.co. Haven’t even heard of it to be honest. I’ve tried quite a few kat remakes though. Is that one official? I keep using few that are decent but they constantly spam me with pop-up ads. As per VPN, I use Surfshark. It offers really good speeds and I haven’t noticed any random drops throughout all this time that I’m using it but I still have kill-switch enabled just in case.
