Using a VPN

In the 21st century using a VPN has become more of a necessity. As the world goes online and most of our transactions begin and terminate online, hackers and other cybercriminals are having a field day. Indeed we’ve heard of many successful security breaches affecting giant corporations from Yahoo, Uber, Equifax, and many more top organizations. In fact, the cost of data breach in 2017 stood at $3.86 million.

Scary right?

This calls for us to be careful at all times. Otherwise, we may end up losing our valuable data which can bring about irreparable loss. We may as well become victims of doxing. This article is about giving you the top reasons why you should be using a VPN whenever you browse the net. You’ll get to know that a VPN does more than protecting your online data.

Using a VPN helps you avoid tracking

Whenever you browse the net using a VPN, your actual location is masked. This way, search engines Google included can’t see your IP address. They only see the VPNs IP address, and therefore your activities online remain private to you. However, you should be aware that cookies can remain on your machine meaning data can still be collected.

Access Content outside your region

Accessing data outside of our locality is becoming among the basic needs. Due to the availability of information, we have become aware of offers and opportunities available overseas. However, in most cases, many services deny access to people based on location. A good example is Netflix. The Netflix USA library of movies and TV shows is massive as compared to other regions. It has prompted those outside USA to look for ways of how they can unblock Netflix USA. Guess what; they stumbled upon a VPN. Using a VPN, you can quickly connect to a USA server and use a US IP to unblock Netflix USA.

A VPN is also excellent for shopping overseas. Typically, organizations do offer different buying offers to different regions. Using a VPN you can easily spoof your location and compare prices to find out which region has the best deal. Using a VPN to shop could save you lots of cash.

Bypassing Censorship

Governments have become notorious for censoring what its citizens may or may not access online. A good example is China with its infamous Great Firewall of China. Other countries include Russia, Belarus, Turkey, and Iran. However, censorship is not only limited to Governments. Schools, your employer or even your ISP, would like to control what you can access online. If you are a victim of this, a VPN can be handy.

Using a VPN can help you bypass the censorship. Your traffic is encrypted so that they won’t be able to see the places you are visiting when you go online. Some VPN’s use the stealth technology to bypass notorious firewalls like the Great Firewall of China. Using VPN stealth makes the VPN traffic disguise and appear as regular HTTPS traffic. That way, you can bypass the censorship machine and access any website you desire from anywhere.

Using a VPN will protect you on Public WiFi

It is in our human nature to like free things. And so public WiFi that we get in airports, restaurants, and in many other public facilities comes in handy. However, you should know that it might cost you dearly. You can connect to a fake hotspot and expose all your sensitive data to cybercriminals. Man in the Middle attacks is synonymous with public WiFi.

Using a VPN is helpful as all your traffic pass through an encrypted tunnel so that even where you connect to a public WiFi, a third party can’t decipher your data.

Privacy

Incidents of snooping are on the rise. We want to maintain our privacy when we browse the internet. However, your ISP and many other third parties are interested in your data. You see, data is big business, and many organization such as marketing companies, Newsletter services, and advertisers do need your information. Data brokers do buy information from ISP’s.

When you use a VPN service, the VPN replaces your IP address with theirs. Hence, your Internet Service Provider does not see your IP, and the traffic is also encrypted.

The Best VPN apps can provide you with maximum security and anonymity

In as much as VPNs will offer you the above benefits, suffice to note that not every other VPN will be useful in providing maximum security and protection. If you are not careful, you might end up with a VPN that does nothing to protect you. What you need is a VPN service that has a history of providing top-notch services. Also, a VPN that comes with excellent features that include robust security, fast speeds, a massive network of servers, and ease of use.

Furthermore, the perfect VPN must have its base in a privacy-friendly location, be a strictly no logs VPN, and allow the user simultaneous connection to multiple devices using a single account. It would also be helpful if the VPN implements all the leading VPN protocols including the invaluable OpenVPN. A NAT Firewall, Internet Kill Switch, and the Stealth technology are among the factors you should consider when choosing the best VPN service.

Here are the 3 Best VPN services that are tested and found fit at securing your online activities

The VPN Implements all the leading protocols and avails 4,838 servers at your disposal. It is a strictly no logs VPN, and its base in Panama is what I’d call an excellent VPN privacy location.

ExpressVPN has consistently exhibited great all-around performance. In fact, if you are looking to stream or torrent, ExpressVPN is your baby. It presents incredible speeds, provides you with more than 2000 servers in 94 countries, and works on all the major platforms. 1. It’s nice to see that you’re suggesting to try my favourite vpn providers, Nicholas. Purchasing either one is a good choice, I think, but my winner is nord. I use vpn mainly for unblocking netflix, and it seems like with nord it’s the easiest way for me. But I guess everyone has different opinions on what is the best.

  2. I couldn’t be bothered to secure myself online up until I got scammed. One advise that I can give is – do not wait until it happens to you. It was the WORST. Anyway I was very paranoid after it happened and spent a lot of time reading reviews online about which provider should I go for. I asked my cousin who is a programmer to advise on this and he told me about Surfshark. It’s still pretty unknown but he said it was trustworthy and he’s been using it for a while now. I subscribed last week. Will see how it goes but so far it looks like it’s working as expected (even a bit quicker that I though it would be). Do you have any personal feedback on it though?
